This rusty old cage is killing me,
That smell, the ever-present chill,
The rats and the roaches, the rampant disease,
Last week, Old Man Jenkins fell ill,
Our rations of food and water are little,
And now the purifier's broke,
Been here a few years, and we're still not settled,
And mostly everyone's lost hope.

I miss my old home, and I miss my old friends,
I wonder what it's like outside,
A nuclear winter, old abandoned buildings,
Broken down cars and skeletons,
Gangs and machine guns and looting and stealing,
The absence of a government,
Compared to this shelter, that doesn't sound too bad,
And no one has to pay taxes.

You said this is shelter, but what am I safe from,
When I've got a weak mind, and a weak immune system?
Is there a reason that no one can leave,
Even though we're dying of disease?
Even though the water that we drink,
Even though the food we eat here stinks?
Even though the lights are barely on?
Even though we've never seen the sun?
Even though we're running out of food and people who can reproduce?
Even though the rats and bugs are thanking us for feeding them our dead?
Even though we're dying down here?

Oh, this is no shelter, no shelter.
